Make your own opportunities

I got a brand new pair of Converse for coming to New York at the beginning of January. And this is what they look like now! Note how worn down they are after 6 weeks!

We've walked miles every day, up and down Manhattan, into subways, from Brooklyn to Queens. All to meet people and make connections that may help Legitimate.

There's been breakfast meetings, coffee mornings, afternoon meetups, evening events and more, every week since we arrived here. We've thrown ourselves into the startup ecosystem, the Irish network and the media space, to connect with people.

There have been so many people that have been happy to help us, to try out the platform and give feedback, to introduce us to others, to share advice and insights on startup life and business in general. We have also been able to help other founders in different ways too.

It's so important to create opportunities for yourself as a founder. You have to jump in and try different things, go to different events and meet different people. You never know who will be at the random book launch, or happy hour, you could meet the person that changes your path forever. It's so easy to stay in your comfort zone, and only speak with the people around you. As the saying goes “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”

So get out there, do something different, make some new connections, and create the opportunities that you've always wanted.
