Mara Levinsky, Soap Opera Digest’s Executive Editor, was born and raised in Evanston, IL, where she first developed the interest in soap opera history that led her to read every book on the genre in the local library and spend hours viewing vintage episodes at the Museum of Broadcast History in Chicago, in addition to reading soap magazines religiously. Mara graduated with high honors in women’s studies from Smith College, where she wrote her honors thesis on soap operas and feminism, and interned at Soap Opera Weekly before moving to Brooklyn, NY, where she currently and proudly resides. Mara joined the Soap Opera Digest staff in 1999 and, in addition to writing and editing historical and critical content for the magazine, she has interviewed hundreds of actors across the daytime dial, serves as SOD’s GENERAL HOSPITAL editor, has hosted Facebook and Instagram Lives for GH, and since 2018, has hosted the popular podcast, Dishing With Digest, with Stephanie Sloane (SOD’s VP, Editorial Director), where they welcome current soap performers and popular alums.
